Is there any typical feature/example for paint doesn't behave well due to storge problem? Can I mix it with regular varnish and Golden Astra heavy gel matt?

    • @GoldenPaints
      @GoldenPaints 14 дней назад

      We generally don’t recommend blending varnish with painting mediums and gels. However, if this particular ‘regular varnish’ is basically an acrylic medium, i.e. a permanent water-based acrylic product, it might be possible to blend it with our gels and mediums. We would recommend testing on a small scale and applying the blends onto a sacrificial surface, to see how the mixtures dry.

      We don’t have a video dedicated to spraying MSA Varnish, but our tech sheet specifies how to dilute the varnish for spraying (2:1 to 1:1 varnish-solvent, depending on spray equipment) goldenartistcolors.com/resources/msa-varnish-uvls-ultra-violet-light-stabilizers Also, here is an article on the type of spray equipment we recommend for spray varnishing with MSA Varnish: justpaint.org/selecting-equipment-for-spraying-varnish/

      @@GoldenPaints thanks i didn't know about the spray equipment article. I used a Wagner Spraytech 0580001 Control Pro 170 Paint Sprayer and it worked out good. I had to spray a big 3 story wall. I thinned it 2:1 and used a 413 tip but had to switch to a 515 tip. I did the same with the isolation coat first. Next time i will use my car paint sprayer and compressor, the wagner probably put it on a little thick but i wonder if you would recommend a wagner type sprayer?

    • @GoldenPaints
      @GoldenPaints 26 дней назад

      Hello Marcey, this might become the new most requested feature now that we implemented the personal palette! Unfortunately, I don't have a very satisfying answer for you... you might notice that we don't have High Flow acrylic colors in the acrylic color mixer. This is because the transparency the formulation makes it more difficult to generate a reliable mixture recommendation. In very simple terms, High Flow colors are heavily influenced by how thickly they are applied. While you can extrapolate the mixing ratios within the formulation to approximate a color target, how thick or thinly you apply that mixture will impact the color. Watercolors are all about transparency, so we would either have to select an average dilution with water (transparency) or assume complete opacity - (few people use watercolors at complete opacity) to have a functional mixer. Either way, the results would be much more difficult for users to replicate in their studio. All that said, there may be a different sort of "mixer" we could create for QoR that will serve as an interactive reference tool for watercolorists. Stay tuned!

    I'm totally fascinated by this. My quick history is that I had an eye infection resulting in the temporary loss of my right eye which ended my painting (depth perception issues). I resorted to vector graphics and have been producing images in that medium. Now, with sight returning, I want to combine the digital imaging with paint. My question is, can I copy out the didtfial results of the mixes into my drawing program? I know I can make the paint mixes and record them, I want to create the function iof color mixing between the two platforms. Since I'm in the middle of a large project, I can see how this will be essential. Whaddya think? (Since I'm about an hour away, should I maybe set up an appointment?)

    • @GoldenPaints
      @GoldenPaints 26 дней назад

      Hello! Your challenge seems pretty complicated (and layered) - but my immediate question would be which drawing (vector) program you're using. If your drawing program is similar to the one I use, you could manually input mixtures taken from the mixer and create swatches for your color mixtures and/or individual colors by manually entering the RGB or CMYK values you get from the "i" (info) panel above the color swatch in the mixer. Unfortunately, there is no way to export all the color data into a color library or any sort of data file that you could import directly into your drawing program. I hope this helps... but feel free to reach out via email (help@goldenpaints.com) and you can explain what you want to do in more detail and we will respond. (comments in YT isn't a great space for this sort of interaction)

    My one qualm with acrylics is that if you apply them thickly, they sink in when they dry. They don't work as well for impasto effects like oil paint. Does this also apply to the Open acrylics? How do they work when painted thickly for those juicy, painterly applications of paint?

    • @GoldenPaints
      @GoldenPaints Месяц назад

      Great question! Since waterborne acrylics dry through evaporation, they shrink as they dry. This will be true of all of our waterborne acrylic products. However, we recommend that OPEN only be applied thinly, with a maximum recommended thickness of 1/16th of an inch. The slow drying rate of the OPEN paints could cause issues with thicker applications.

    • @johnnagridge
      @johnnagridge Месяц назад

      Thank you so much for that information. I already have some OPEN acrylics so this advice is most appreciated.

    • @GoldenPaints
      @GoldenPaints Месяц назад

      Our new formula dries slower than the older Archival spray. Typically, once the solvent smell completely disappears, an additional layer can be applied. To be safe, allow several hours before applying additional coats, or overnight before a different sheen is applied.

    Oil pastel needs a gold product to be varnished or protected. My question is, what Golden product can I use as a varnish to protect my oil pastel art? Thanks for answering me.

    • @GoldenPaints
      @GoldenPaints Месяц назад

      Oil pastels are made with non-drying oils and wax, which means they never dry or cure. This makes varnishing tricky, as subsequent coatings do not adhere on these pastels permanently. Of all our products, a thin layer of Archival Varnish would be the best shot, but besides the risk of delamination, there’s also the possibility of the varnish remaining tacky for a very long time. It’s best to follow the recommendations of the pastel manufacturers regarding varnishes or fixatives.

      @@GoldenPaints Thank you! I have a question, can I dilute medium fluid matte soft pastels? First I put soft pastels and then with a brush I put fluid matte medium golden as an experiment. It fixed to the paper perfectly. Now my question, can this affect my painting or is the procedure correct? This experiment is not with olja pastel, I clarify, it is only with soft pastels.. ..Thank you very much for answering me. I am writing to you from Stockholm.

    • @GoldenPaints
      @GoldenPaints Месяц назад

      Fluid Matte Medium may be brushed over thin applications of soft chalk pastels, although it can smudge the pastel and even change the color as the acrylic saturates the pigment particles. However, if the chalk pastel is applied thickly, the acrylic might only adhere to the top layer of particles and not make contact with the substrate below. This could cause poor adhesion in places. We suggest you do some testing on a surface meant for experimentation, and see what happens when the Fluid Matte Medium is brushed over thick and thin soft pastel applications. We hope this is helpful, and we are here when you have more questions!

    • @GoldenPaints
      @GoldenPaints Месяц назад

      The nap size of a roller has to do with the length of the fibers themselves on the roller cover. A smaller size like ¼ will be best for smoother surfaces, where a ½ will have a bit more roller texture, which may be great on a textured surface that will accept the extra paint that is offloaded.

    • @GoldenPaints
      @GoldenPaints Месяц назад

      Great question. White actually does two things, it will lighten the value of the color, but it also neutralizes the color as bit as well. White being such a high tinting strength color will often over power the subtlety of colors. With watercolor some of the most vibrancy will come from highly dilute transparent washes and glazes. This demo was to show that you could use white to add body or opacity to the colors as needed. Some folks like to do this with highlights for example. This article might be fun to look at. We are having some site issues at present, but this link should work soon once we get the site back online. justpaint.org/neutralizing-color/ Let us know if you have questions, help@goldenpaints.com
